Cusco chosen as the best Latin America tourism city
04 August 2023 (550 visits)The city of Cusco has been selected this year by the readers of the US magazine Travel + Leisure as the best city in Latin America for tourism.
The 2023 edition of the annual Readers’ 10 Favorite Cities in Central and South America survey organized by Travel + Leisure placed Cusco at the top of the ranking as the best city in Central and South America to visit this year.
This is the fifth consecutive time that Cusco has been the recipient of this distinction. Travel + Leisure magazine, which received more than 850,000 responses from its readers and professionals in the travel sector, highlighted how Cusco has managed to increase its visitor numbers after a difficult first quarter, thanks to the return in Peru to greater sociopolitical stability.
Travel + Leisure described Cusco as exceptional thanks to its historic architecture and unique local cuisine. Among the top 10 cities to visit in Latin America, Lima was listed in ninth place, and its unique fine dining scene was highlighted.
International tourists who plan to visit Peru will certainly want to include Lima and Cusco in their Peru travel plans. And, of course, almost all visitors who travel to Peru visit Machu Picchu, while many also choose to hike the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu.
Peru is justly famous for its Andean scenery, great trekking routes, and Inca and living culture. Fewer travelers know that 60% of Peru lies within the Amazon basin.
