Explore the Peruvian Amazon in person!

22 December 2023 (505 visits)

Our ecotourism-based conservation project in Peru is home to our eco-lodge, where conservation-minded travelers can visit the Amazon and explore the unsurpassed biological diversity of the rainforests of South America.

Our Tambopata Ecolodge is strategically located in one of the most biodiverse places on Earth, but also within easy reach from the city of Cusco, Peru’s most popular travel destination, which is the starting point for trips to Machu Picchu and the world-famous Inca Trail.

Surrounded by the primary rainforest we work to protect, our picturesque eco-lodge is cozy and comfortable, and we offer a wide variety of ecotourism activities. Our rainforest trails allow our guests to fully appreciate the diverse habitats they explore, as part of immersive experiences, in the company of our expert naturalist guides.

Our Tambopata Ecolodge Private Conservation Area lies on the edge of the vast Tambopata National Reserve, forming part of hundreds of thousands of acres of protected wilderness, including palm wetlands, bamboo thickets, oxbow lakes, and different types of flooded and non-flooded forests. Wildlife is abundant in these diverse tropical habitats, including many endangered species, eight species of monkeys, and more than 600 bird species.

We are located around three hours from Puerto Maldonado, where we meet our guests from the local airport or bus station, far enough away from the town to place us in untouched rainforest habitat, well beyond the areas of secondary forest affected by human activity.

At Tambopata Ecolodge, our mission is to conserve the Amazon rainforest through ecotourism, by making the forests we help to protect more valuable to the local economy when left intact. By attracting international travelers to our Peruvian jungle home, we show our fellow Peruvians that there are other ways to make a living from the Amazon rainforest, encouraging them to turn away from environmentally destructive activities, such as mining and logging.

We invite you to visit the rainforest in Peru, spend a few days with us at our comfortable jungle lodge, and help us to protect the Amazon for future generations!

What your rainforest visit means

In Peru ecotourism has helped make it possible to create national reserves and save the forests of the Amazon basin from destruction. By implementing our ecotourism-based conservation model (see our video), we are ensuring the forests will be around for future generations to appreciate. Pioneering projects like Tambopata Ecolodge, which was established in 1991, serve as a conservation model, by showing how responsible ecotourism can support conservation initiatives.
