And here in Tambopata, we offer guests the most accessible and biodiverse unspoiled jungle to be found anywhere on the continent.
What makes an Amazon rainforest visit in Peru the best option, when compared to neighboring countries like Brazil, Bolivia or Ecuador, is how family friendly and easy to get to our pristine forests are, particularly in Tambopata, where our own remote Tambopata Ecolodge is located.
More than 35 years ago, we created our rainforest lodge on the edge of what is now Tambopata National Reserve, and today the tropical forest we continue to work to protect forms part of the buffer zone that helps keep the National Reserve safe from exploitation.
In Peru, there are two main gateways to the Amazon, in the far northeast of the country, and in the southeast. Here in the southeastern rainforest, the town of Puerto Maldonado is the best option for those who travel to Peru to see Machu Picchu and Cusco, and maybe hike the Inca Trail, but who would also like to see the Amazon basin.
This is because there are regular flights from Cusco to Puerto Maldonado, as well as from Lima to Puerto Maldonado, and there is even an overnight bus service from Cusco. It is in Puerto Maldonado that our Tambopata Ecolodge team meets all our guests from the airport, bus terminal, or their hotel. From the town, after stopping off at our office, we drive our guests to the river port, for the relaxing boat ride to our jungle lodge. This is when we leave behind the disturbed, secondary forest around Puerto Maldonado, and begin to enter the biologically diverse protected primary rainforest that surrounds our jungle lodge.
