Recommendations for travel to the jungle

19 May 2023 (456 visits)

For those about to plan a jungle trip in Peru, the Amazon rainforest accessed from the jungle town of Puerto Maldonado is probably the best option. Our Tambopata Ecolodge is situated in untouched, primary forest that we work every day to protect, on the edge of Tambopata National Reserve, where we operate many of our ecotourism tours. It’s easy to get to Puerto Maldonado from Lima or Cusco, and we pick up all our guests from the town’s airport or bus terminal, and take them by road and boat to our jungle home.

This makes our eco-lodge perfect for those planning to travel to Peru to see Cusco and Machu Picchu, and maybe hike the Inca Trail, but who also want to spend 3 or 4 days at the end of their Peru vacation on a trip to the Amazon basin.

The part of Peru’s Amazon rainforest where we live and work is renowned for its exceptional biodiversity, including macaw and parrot clay licks on a scale not seen anywhere else in all of South America. Traveling to the Amazon may seem like a challenge, but as our own Tambopata Ecolodge destination experts advise all our guests before they come to stay with us, if you follow a few simple steps when preparing for your trip, you’ll be sure to have a great time and enjoy everything the Amazon has to offer.

When you check out the recommendations we send to all our guests at time of booking, be sure to focus on important information regarding vaccinations. Make sure you check with your physician or local travel clinic, and that you get the jabs that will protect you from the common diseases that are present in all the world’s tropical regions. Also, remember that 90% of all rainforest animals are insects, so don’t forget to pack insect repellent!

Choosing the right clothing for the jungle will also help you to protect against insects, as well as ensuring that you’ll be as comfortable as possible. Wear light-weight, loose-fitting clothing that is quick to dry, and keep your arms and legs covered when on rainforest trails during your ecoadventure excursions. Take along a hat or cap to protect you from the hot sun, as well as sunscreen, but at the same time pack a rainproof jacket. It can rain at any time of year in tropical forests!

Following these simple tips and those you’ll receive from our team when you book with us will mean you’ll be well-prepared to the get the most out of a once-in-a-lifetime Peru rainforest vacation with us at Tambopata Ecolodge.

We look forward to welcoming you!

What your rainforest visit means

In Peru ecotourism has helped make it possible to create national reserves and save the forests of the Amazon basin from destruction. By implementing our ecotourism-based conservation model (see our video), we are ensuring the forests will be around for future generations to appreciate. Pioneering projects like Tambopata Ecolodge, which was established in 1991, serve as a conservation model, by showing how responsible ecotourism can support conservation initiatives.
