Located 68 kilometers via a beautiful river journey from the town of Puerto Maldonado, here in Tambopata we are the custodians of one of the most accessible yet pristine parts of the Peruvian Amazon. The lush forests where we built our comfortable jungle lodge more than 35 years ago are home to astonishing biodiversity, including more than 600 bird species, over 100 mammal species, at least eight species of monkey, and countless species of weird and wonderful insects.
The unique attractions of Tambopata include our macaw clay licks, where visitors can witness how scores of macaws and parrots come together to feed on mineral-rich clay banks; picture-perfect oxbow lakes, where giant otters, caimans and prehistoric hoatzin birds can be seen and photographed; and remote trails and tributaries that offer excellent chances to see jaguars, tapirs, pumas, monkeys and anacondas.
To truly experience the Amazon jungle, a multi-day stay at our jungle lodge is recommended. During a 3- or 4-day stay with us, guests can visit the jungle during early mornings and evenings, when animals are most active, enjoy their downtime in comfort, and eat great food featuring both Peruvian and international dishes.
Our unspoiled rainforest is accessible year-round by air from Cusco or Lima. While some believe that the dry season (May to October) is ideal for trail hiking, the rainy season (November to April) is also a great time to visit, offering the best opportunities to see nesting birds and monkeys feeding on fruit and nuts.
