And, when our guests arrive in Puerto Maldonado, our Tambopata Ecolodge team takes care of every aspect of their stay! After the airport transfer to our office in town, or pick-up from the local bus station, we drive them to the river port, where we board our boat for the journey to our rainforest lodge, deep in the forest.
Many of the lodges that advertise jungle stays in Peru online are actually located in the secondary forest around Puerto Maldonado, where wildlife is scarce. In contrast, we are situated in protected primary forest, more than 68 kilometers by river from the town, on the edge of Tambopata National Reserve.
During the long, relaxing boat ride from the town to our jungle lodge, our guests find themselves leaving behind the world of humans and venturing deep into a part of the planet that is still dominated by nature. The Amazon rainforest that we help to protect is one of the most biologically diverse places on Earth, and our guests can expect to see many species of major Amazon fauna, including monkeys, caimans, anacondas and even –with a little patience and luck- jaguars!
