When you plan your Machu Picchu visit, include an Amazon trip!

26 August 2022 (355 visits)

When planning a trip to Peru, most travelers know that Machu Picchu will be on their itinerary, but fewer tourists know that they can also include the Amazon as part of their Peru vacation.

Many people associate the Amazon exclusively with Brazil, but 60% of Peruvian national territory lies within the Amazon basin! There’s probably nowhere else on Earth where it is possible to experience high altitude scenery, living culture, history and archaeology, and in the same two-week vacation visit unspoiled tropical forests.

But in Peru, you can travel from the Andes to the Amazon on a short scheduled flight from Cusco to the jungle town of Puerto Maldonado, or fly in from Lima if you are in the Peruvian capital! And from Puerto Maldonado, where our Tambopata Ecolodge team meets guests from their flight, it is less than 3 hours by boat to our remote rainforest location, via a river journey that is in itself a jungle tour.

In the protected, fauna-rich forests of Tambopata, we offer our guests an authentic rainforest experience. Our all-inclusive packages include 3-, 4- and 5-day eco-lodge stays. By flying from Cusco to Puerto Maldonado, our visitors can immerse themselves in the Amazon forest following their Cusco, Machu Picchu or Inca Trail experience. After a tiring Inca Trail hike, there is no better place than our comfortable eco-lodge to relax, venture into the forests each day in the company of an expert naturalist guide, eat well, and stretch out in a hammock in the evenings.

We take care of every detail for our guests. Once they have completed their online booking, all they have to do is board their flight, and we take care of the rest! We meet them at the local airport’s arrivals gate, and after a quick stop at our office in town, we drive them to the river port to board one of our boats to the eco-lodge. At our lodge, our ecotourism programs include accommodation in cabin-style rooms set in our rainforest gardens, all meals –mostly buffet-style with a selection of traditional Peruvian and international dishes- and all the boat and trail excursions that form part of our responsible ecotourism adventures, provided in the company of a professional and experienced bilingual naturalist guide.

For those looking for an immersive experience in nature, and a great way to relax at the end of their holiday in Peru, a few days in the Amazon basin at our Tambopata Ecolodge, spotting rainforest animals and surrounded by lush tropical flora, is the perfect choice!!

What your rainforest visit means

In Peru ecotourism has helped make it possible to create national reserves and save the forests of the Amazon basin from destruction. By implementing our ecotourism-based conservation model (see our video), we are ensuring the forests will be around for future generations to appreciate. Pioneering projects like Tambopata Ecolodge, which was established in 1991, serve as a conservation model, by showing how responsible ecotourism can support conservation initiatives.
