Its remote location in unspoiled Amazon rainforest makes our eco-lodge one of the best places in South America to visit the jungle. At the same time, our unbeatable accessibility means that travelers who visit Peru can include a jungle trip as part of their vacation plan, because it is so easy to get to us quickly and comfortably. There are regular scheduled flights from Lima and Cusco to the jungle town of Puerto Maldonado, and there are even buses from Cusco! And, in Puerto Maldonado we meet all our guests from the airport and bus station, before taking them by boat to our eco-lodge, around 68 kilometers from the nearest population center, deep within protected rainforest.
But, while our location, comfortable eco-lodge facilities, excellent food and warm hospitality make us a great place to stay and experience the surrounding rainforest habitat, what makes our responsible ecotourism packages so special for our guests is the personalized service they receive from our expert naturalist guides.
It is our guides who work to connect our guests with nature during their jungle stay with us in the rainforests of southeastern Peru. Of course, at Tambopata Ecolodge, we want to offer all our guests the chance to observe and photograph the animals they have always dreamed of seeing, from brightly-plumaged birds to caimans and capybaras, or even anacondas and jaguars, but we also hope they’ll be open to learning more about the rainforest itself.
And that is where the expertise of our local guides comes in. We prefer to recruit our guides locally, not only because it is the best way to contribute to the economic wellbeing of local families, but because they possess a very special knowledge of the rainforest that is their home.
Of course, we train our guides thoroughly, and regularly update that training, but there are certain things that simply cannot be taught, and which our guides possess as part of their unique identity. In additional to knowing exactly where to find different rainforest animals, and the names and uses of hundreds of plants, our guides understand how those different aspects of rainforest life combine to form the complex web of life that is the Amazon basin.
So, what are you waiting for? Visit us in our jungle home, and let us introduce you to the many wonders of the Amazon rainforest!
