The current situation in Machu Picchu

We expect normal service to resume in the coming days

Monday, January 29th 2024: As reported in the international press, in recent days there have been isolated demonstrations in the town of Machu Picchu.

The Peruvian authorities have been working in recent months on an outsourced system for the sale of tickets to Machu Picchu, with the aim of implementing a more user-friendly online process that is more efficient and guarantees security for both Machu Picchu and its visitors.

Following the introduction of the new online system, local objections were received, and in recent days those persons decided to exercise their right to protest in the town of Machu Picchu. In response, the Peruvian government has entered into dialogue with the protesters, in order to define, as soon as possible, how the new system can be improved.

While the train companies have temporarily suspended their operations, we expect normal service to resume in the coming days.
